This at-home lab test provides valuable insights into your thyroid function (TSH, T3, T4) and antibodies to understand potential problems, like hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and Hashimoto's.
What is measured?
This test measures the following biomarker:
-
TSH
Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that regulates the function of the thyroid. TSH controls the production of the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which are essential for maintaining metabolism, energy levels, and overall hormonal balance. TSH is one test that is used to diagnose thyroid disorders such as hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), Graves' disease, and Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and to monitor the effectiveness of thyroid treatment.
-
Free T3
Free T3 is a measurement of the unbound, active form of the T3 thyroid hormone. It plays an important role in regulating metabolism and hormones in the body. T3 levels can be inaccurate in individuals who are taking, or who have taken, high doses of biotin (also called vitamin B7, B8, or coenzyme R) within the last 72 hours.
-
Free T4
Free T4 (FT4) is a hormone made by the thyroid gland that helps control your body's metabolism. It is the part of the thyroxine hormone not bound to proteins in the blood, making it available to tissues and cells. Testing FT4 gives a better picture of how your thyroid is working. This test is usually done with a TSH test to find thyroid problems, like hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone) and hypothyroidism (too little thyroid hormone).
-
TPOab
Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPOab) are proteins produced by the immune system that mistakenly attack the thyroid gland. Measuring TPOab levels is crucial as it helps diagnose autoimmune thyroid diseases like Hashimoto's thyroiditis and predicts the risk of thyroid dysfunction. Regular testing helps in early detection and long term management of thyroid disorders, ensuring timely medical intervention when necessary.
